Bejeweled 2 Deluxe

Genre: match 3 games
When Bejeweled 2 launched alongside the iPhone App Store last year, it quickly rose to the top of the sales charts.Despite thousands and thousands of iPhone game releases since, PopCap's classic action-puzzler always seems to perform well in terms of sales. Now, thanks to the addition of Bejeweled Blitz, Bejeweled 2 for the iPhone seems to have cemented itself as one of the most popular iPhone apps around.

No one would question that Bejeweled 2 was an appropriate title for the game when it first launched. After all – the game was quite literally a portable version of the Bejeweled 2 PC game that released back in 2004.But the developers at PopCap have done something truly genius recently – they've added the insanely popular Facebook game Bejeweled Blitz to the app, turning this offering into two games in one.

Bejeweled Blitz is a one-minute variation on the classic Bejeweled formula. The object of the game is to get as high a score as possible in 60 seconds and hopefully outshine your friends.

Because Blitz is a Facebook game, all of your friends stats will be tracked and you'll always have that carrot-on-the-stick “I just need to keep playing until I beat Billy!” experience.

There's a reason why it's so popular on Facebook, and that addictive quality translated to the iPhone version flawlessly.

Blitz mode offers up everything you'd hope to find in the mobile version Bejeweled Blitz, setting a new standard for Facebook/iPhone connectivity.

The game shares all of its data with the Facebook version, meaning your high score on the iPhone app will update to Facebook instantly. If you earn badges or pass a friend on the leaderboard, the app will update your Facebook status just like the regular version would.

You can even play offline and sync up your new high score the next time you connect.

For iPod Touch users, little additions like this are a blessing.

Bejeweled 2 also offers up something I was surprised to find in this iPhone version of the popular gem matcher: flawless gameplay. So many other match-3 games on the iPhone have failed to impress that it only seemed natural that the genre was doomed on this platform from the start. Not so it would seem, as Bejeweled 2 for the iPhone offers up the most comfortable and intuitive controls for a match-3 game that we've ever seen.Swiping your finger to switch gems is so natural that it's amazing no other match-3 game has pulled it off so perfectly. After playing this for hours on end, it's going to be a real challenge for me to get back to matching gems with a mouse and keyboard.

While Bejeweled 2 may be flawless in terms of gameplay and Blitz adaptation, there are a few things that kept this release from reaching perfection. The puzzle mode from the original Bejeweled 2, where you'd have to use your noodle to solve gem-based dilemmas, was nowhere to be found. We also found it really annoying that every time we logged into Blitz mode our Facebook status would post “Jim is playing Bejeweled Blitz for the iPhone.” We get it – Jim likes Bejeweled Blitz. But when I'm bringing the game up 15 times a day to play for a few minutes here and there, it's downright embarrassing to see a dozen or so identical Facebook updates in a 4 hour period. With no way to turn this off, Blitz mode comes with a badge of humiliation that fills up your wall and bothers your friends.

PopCap could have easily released Bejeweled Blitz as a separate iPhone game, but instead chose to treat their fans to a double dose of gem-swapping genius. While the lack of puzzle mode was disappointing and the constant status updates an annoyance, there's really no need to mince words here; in terms of iPhone gaming, Bejeweled 2 is a match-3 masterpiece. If you're even the slightest fan of match-3 gameplay, consider this title a must-buy.

You can trail it for one hours. Use this code to discount your order NEW50 (for the first time you make a order at BFG)

Fish Tycoon - a real-time game

"Fish Tycoon" shows us just how addicting and fun real-time games can be. You'll find yourself checking to see if your baby fish have grown and what new hybrid breeds you have created. "Fish Tycoon" is a game that you play a little here and a little there, you don't sit and play for 5 hours straight.

  • real-time gameplay, fish age even when computer is off
  • over 400 breeds of fish
  • finding the magic fish is not easy
  • multiple ways to find the magic fish
  • ability to stop time passage

Cons

  • does not keep track of breeds discovered & how they are created
  • keep both types of medicine at same time
  • does not have in-game time controls, have to go back to main menu

Description

  • Publisher: Last Day of Work
  • A a fish breeding game, where the main objective is to find the 7 magic fish of Isola.
  • "Fish Tycoon" is a virtual pet game, that requires you to feed and buy supplies for the fish.
  • Start with a couple of fish, and breed them to find new breeds and the magical fish.
  • The magical fish of "Fish Tycoon" have special abilities to help other fish in the tank.
  • Buy supplies, chemicals, eggs, and research to help your fish thrive.
  • Set the price for each species and sell the fish in your fish store.

Guide Review - "Fish Tycoon" Review (PC)

How much fun can breeding and raising fish be? Lots. "Fish Tycoon" is a game about breeding fish in the hopes of finding the 7 magic fish of Isola. It's not an easy task to do with over 400 breeds. The game starts you off slow with a tutorial. Showing you how to do the basic tasks like breeding and feeding fish. Within minutes you'll be playing on your own.You will only be able to breed a few fish without the babies dying. In order to get the most rare fish to survive, environment research must be done. It takes a long time to sell enough fish to buy the research. When you do get enough money to buy it, you have to wait a few real hours for the research to be completed.
Discovering what two different species of fish will breed, is fascinating. Some fish are ugly and sell for very little, while there are many beautiful fish that will earn you lots of money. Trying to find all the breeds becomes quickly addicting.
While finding discovering new breeds is fun, the main objective is to discover the 7 magical fish. This is no easy task. But is made easier by the fact that the game can be solved in multiple ways and there is no right strategy.
What I really like about "Fish Tycoon" is that while it is addictive, I can have it running while I do other things, like answering email or work. You can check on it once an hour for a few minutes, and go back to work. I recommend everyone at least download the demo.

Game Review: Plants vs Zombies

Awards: Winner of more than 20 Game of the Year awards.

Overall Score: 4/5

While Plants vs Zombies has great lasting value, its slow load speeds are a bit discouraging and the gameplay isn’t spectacular compared to other tower defense games.

Gameplay: 4/5

Even though there are some better tower defense games out there, Plants vs Zombies still manages to have good gameplay thanks to the insane amount of different plants (towers) and various zombies (enemies). It does lack a scoring system (unlike geoDefense), but Plants vs Zombies incorporates a neat money system where you can buy yourself upgrades, and the limited plant (tower) selection makes you really think about your gameplan and how you will defeat the zombies. So yes, the game is fun and unique, but personally I would pick geoDefense instead!

Presentation: 3/5

Loooooading. Loading. It’s a bit slow to load, but otherwise the visuals are usually good. However, the frame rate did stutter three times when I was playing it (over the course of about three hours). The music is fantastic. Unfortunately the slow load and resume speeds bring the experience down, especially when it isn’t an impressive 3D visual title.

Lasting Value: 5/5

You’ll get over 5 hours of gameplay from Plants vs Zombies from the main game mode alone! Then there’s some arcade games that you unlock as you beat the main campaign, or you can go back and replay the campaign mode. There’s also achievements of course, and some leaderboards that compare your scores on those mini games to your Xbox Live friend’s scores. The huge variety of plants alone can keep you interested for awhile. Great lasting value!

Department 42: The Mystery of the Nine has beautiful scenes with items that are hidden very well and difficult puzzles that will test the wits of every player. Genre:
This is a Hidden Object game that also has puzzle mini games.

Department 42: The Mystery of the Nine is only available in standard, untimed mode and must also be played in full screen.

This game has nine different artifacts that must be tracked down, and offers over thirty Hidden Object scenes as well as twenty mini game puzzles to give a player hours of engaging challenges.

Similar to:
Department 42: The Mystery of the Nine is similar to Enlightenus, Hidden in Time: Mirror Mirror and Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst.

Difficulty level:
This is a medium level Hidden Object game that is made more difficult for an advanced player with puzzles in between scenes.

With entertaining shooter action throughout, Ultimate Omelette is definitely a good egg.

The Chicken Invaders series has always been a good source of protein... and entertainment. Blasting feathered fiends in space needs a silly storyline to go along with it, and Chicken Invaders has always delivered in this aspect. The fourth release (Chicken Invaders verson 4), subtitled Ultimate Omelette, continues the wacky tradition, providing the most challenging and bizarre shooting action in the series so far.
The joke perhaps feels a little strung out by now, and the gameplay barely differs from previous titles, but that doesn't stop Ultimate Omelette from being plenty of addictive fast-paced fun.
 Ultimate Omelette
Chicken Invaders 4 continues on from where the story left off in number three, although it isn't necessary to play the rest of the series to fully appreciate this latest release. Our hero is about to order a large portion of chicken from his local Space Burger drive-thru, when a mysterious ship appears from a nearby portal and tells of an incoming chicken invasion.
The chickens have built a huge Egg Cannon which can be used to fire eggs at planets, covering them in yolk and egg white which then fries in the heat of the sun. Players must chase down the terrible machine through multiple waves of dangerous poultry, dodging egg bombs and swooping birds of doom.
Ultimate Omelette is genuinely humorous, make no mistake. Dialogue is told through speech bubbles and Star Wars-inspired cutscenes, and while the story is rather throwaway, there are plenty of great lines to quote back to friends. The enemy characters are often a great laugh too, ranging from chicks riding in UFOs to hens firing huge laser beams.
Gameplay is your standard shoot 'em up affair, with enemies swooping around the screen, and players tasked with dodging incoming fire and blasting them all down to proceed. Chickens will drop a variety of power-ups for your laser, money for high scores and chicken pieces for special bombs. Darting around collecting the fallout is a game in itself.
 Ultimate Omelette
There are just over half a dozen different weapons to try out, some more useful than others. Experimenting with the different firepower is really enjoyable, although you'll most likely end up sticking to one particular weapon that you find the most pleasing.
Note that you cannot simply hold the fire button down and fill the screen with bullets, as your gun will overheat if you use it too often - balancing your weapon use gives the game a real tactical feel.
Two different control methods are available - either using your mouse or your keyboard - and we found that, while the keyboard is the classic weapon of choice, Ultimate Omelette is far easier with mouse control, especially when you take all the falling debris into consideration. With so much going hard, it can be difficult to get out of the way in time using the keyboard, plus it doesn't always feel so responsive.
Chicken Invaders 4 is fantastic for a first-timer to the series, but for veterans of the games, it will feel a little too samey. The action has improved somewhat over the course of the series, but it's still really the same ideas and premise that ran through the other games. Hence, those who are not new to the games may feel that paying full price for this latest release is a little too much.
Having said that, there's plenty to see and do in Chicken Invaders 4, from collecting medals to unlock a host of secret features. For an entertaining and hilarious romp through space, Ultimate Omelette will definitely provide the goods on a silver platter.
My highscore: 163 mil :D

 My career medals:

There are also word games, brain teasers and simple adventure games available. Big Fish Games is trying to be the end all for the casual game market and they are succeeding. There site and games are known to be spyware free and the games are available for PC and Mac.

Here is a brief look at how the site works, how to cancel your account and other basic information condensed for your viewing pleasure. More information is available at the Big Fish Games homepage.

How It Works

When you go the Big Fish Games website, you'll be presented with a colorful homepage filled with games and categories to choose from . Almost all the games offer a 1 hour free trial before you have to buy to keep playing. If you find a game you are interested in, select it and you willl be taken to a page with a Try Free or Buy It Now option along with a description of the game.

When you select Try It Now, the game will pop up a download box. Select yes. Big Fish Games has their own download manager software you will need to install, which houses all the games you try or buy.Once their game manager has installed, the game itself will install and you can watch the progress. Most of the games are not too big and shouldn't take up too much room. Then you can simply select Play to play free for an hour. A status bar tells you how much time you have left. When time is up, you will be booted from the game and asked to buy. If you refuse, you can't play the game anymore.

Buying a Game, Billing and Game Club Account

Buying a game is simple and will be added to your cart whenever you select the buy option, whether on the website or in the game manager. You will be prompted to create an account and enter credit card or PayPal details.

At checkout you will have the option to see all your planned purchases. Big Fish Games offers two options - you can buy the game itself, enroll in the Big Fish Game Club or both. Most standard games are $6.99 while Collector's Editions are $19.99. The Big Fish Game Club is a monthly subscription service that will bill your credit card monthly for $6.99 and includes 1 free game credit for a $6.99 game. The first month of the Game Club is free but includes no game credit.

The benefits of the Game Club include access to their daily game special which offers a specific game for $2.99. Big Fish Games adds a game daily and you will get access to tomorrow's game today, be able to participate in promotions, be eligible for the Punch Card and have access to Live Chat Customer Support.

Big Fish Games Monthly Punch Card

For avid gamers or those who plan on buying a lot of games, it's important to be aware of Big Fish Games Monthly Punch Card. It runs from the first to the last day of each calendar month. Any subscriber to the Big Fish Games Club is eligible. For every 6 punches you earn, you will receive 1 game credit for a standard game. A punch game credit cannot be redeemed for Collector's Edition games. There is no monthly limit on Punches but it resets to 0 at 12:01 PST the first of the next month. So if you were at 5 punches and waited until the next month before buying another game, you would be starting over and have only 1 punch.

You earn punches by buying games. A Standard Game will earn 1 punch and a Collector's Edition game 3 punches. Active Game Club Members will receive an e-mail sometime during the first week of the next month with the redemption.

Other points to keep in mind is that your account must be active at the end of the month and the punches are account specific. Games purchased through the Daily Deals, coupons or credits are also eligible to earn punches.

How to Cancel Your Big Fish Games Subscription and Uninstall

For many people who are new to internet billing and are unfamiliar with canceling online, here are the required steps:

* Log in to your Big Fish Games Account
* Go to the My Game Club tab, a subset of the My Account tab
* Simply select Cancel Your Account
* It will ask to confirm and your account will be immediately terminated

Big Fish Games accounts can only be canceled online! There is no phone number. To avoid another month's billing you will have to cancel before your account crosses the next bill date, which is listed under your account and is the same day of the month that you opened the account.

The games you have purchased remain yours and can be played whenever you want. Your subscription may be canceled but your account remains active so you can log in and reactivate or play your games.

The Game Manager and Toolbar can easily be uninstalled the same way you uninstall most programs.
